Enchanted

Today's photo was taken just down the road from the "Enchanted Forest" tourist attraction.

Didn't get too much rain today - except for a couple of cloudbursts that drenched the road. Otherwise it was a great day for a drive. Oh, other than being held up at Golden because of a rock slide on the highway. Still made it back to Calgary by dark - and beat the rain getting my gear into the house.

So, I'm home for a week or so before doing the long drive out east.

I'll post a couple more from the western leg over the next few days.

Interesting couple of days.

This post is what I meant to post yesterday - but wasn't able to track down an internet connection in Salmon Arm BC on a Sunday night.

Anyways, light rain for the first half of the trip through mainland BC - but kept catching periods of non-rain when I was shooting, very thankful for that. Fraser Canyon was pretty amazing along the way. Haven't been that route for many years - really old memories of parts of it. Mostly take the shorter route - but these pics are about the TransCanada Highway, so the "scenic" route it was.

One thing about BC, I could actually stop every 10 kilometers instead of every 50. As it was, I made several extra stops in between the "official" 50k stops. Still missed thousands of photos. That may be a project for the future.

This picture was just north of Shuswap lake as I was arriving.

Victoria to Vancouver

Today was the first leg of the journey - covered Victoria to Vancouver. Victoria was really active, they had their Art Walk, and the snowbirds were flying overhead the whole time I was in town. The photo above was actually about 30 kilometers down into the journey - but it really does show just how lush southern Vancouver Island is. Just barely made the ferry back across. Had hoped to get a little further, but the sun is going down pretty early any more - summer must be just about done.

The Test Run

As part of my planning for the trip across Canada following the TransCanada Highway from coast to coast - I did a drive today doing the 50 kilometer stops. With a stop for rest room break, assorted horrible highway traffic at the end of the Labour Day long weekend, assorted winding roads and small towns, I got the results I thought I'd get. Travel should be about 1 hour and 8 minutes per 100 kilometres. Of course, if there isn't much traffic or other problems, that'll be cut down a bit. Not just have to get the highway report on what construction might be going on along the route.
